A Look Inside: Yellow Springs Brewery
It is no secret that Yellow Springs is a special community. It is a small, close-knit town with numerous local shops and restaurants. This town of just under 4,000 people is commonly seen as one of the coolest places in Ohio. One of the most popular spots in town is the Yellow Springs Brewery. Located on the Little Miami Bike trail, Yellow Springs Brewery is the perfect place to stop and relax for runners, hikers, and cyclists - or anyone coming into town. There is no better

Lessons from an expert
Malcom Gladwell's 10,000 hour rule states that it takes 10,000 hours of "deliberate practice" to become an expert in some field or subject. By these numbers, Mike Willets likely surpassed the threshold for what us mortals would call "expert," a long time ago. I recently spoke with Mike about his love for running. In speaking with him, I learned that he ran 108 full marathons. "I am a 50 stater, meaning I have run a marathon in every state and I am 8 away from going back throu

Sponsorship Announcement: Ohio Valley Surgical Center
It is with great pleasure that we announce our second sponsor for the Happy Half Marathon. Ohio Valley Surgical Center is joining the Happy Half team for the 2018 race! Mike Willets and his team (Ohio Valley Sports Medicine) have been gracious supporters of the Happy Half since our second race and they remain a large part in our success. Due to the face that our philosophies and goals line up so well, this partnership is a great fit for all parties. For example, we both take

Sponsorship Announcement: Yellow Springs Brewery
We are very pleased to have the Yellow Springs Brewery as a sponsor for the 2018 Happy Half Marathon! With the Happy Half ending at the Yellow Springs Brewery (located at 305 Walnut Street, Yellow Springs, Ohio) this partnership makes a lot of sense for all parties involved. In addition to being a community sponsor, Yellow Springs Brewery will be opening earlier than their scheduled hours (10:00am) so Happy Half runners and their friends and families can enjoy a pint on their

So, you're considering a half marathon?
Often in life, we find that the most difficult challenge that we face is getting started. This can be especially true when it comes to challenging tasks. For example, running. Every year at the Happy Half Marathon, we meet a number of people experiencing the anxiousness and excitement of race day. We reached out to find some of those folks and asked them to recall their first time running 13.1. One runner that I spoke with was Kimberlee Bigelow. Kimberlee, who works as a vete

Here comes the sun?
Though the sixth edition of the Happy Half Marathon is still 140+ days away, for many of us, the training never stops. Even through we are (kind of) seeing a bit of a warm up, it looks as though we could see snow again within the next few days. Despite this seemingly endless winter, the running never stops. Whether it is a jog on the treadmill or the folks brave enough to head outside and take on the cold, trying to keep in race-shape is very difficult during the winter month

A look inside...
For the fifth time, the Happy Half Marathon will feature handmade medals thanks to Doug Frates Glass. Last Thursday, I had the privilege of visiting Doug Frates and team to get an inside look at the 2017 edition of these beautiful medals. As Doug explained to me, each medal is made from glass that is heated up to about 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit. It is then rolled on a table into a cylindrical shape, dipped into it's color before it goes back into the fire. After some time back
