What is the Happy Half Marathon all about?

In 2011 a group of family members ran from Springfield to Yellow Springs in training for the Columbus Marathon. Their goal was to raise money for the cancer treatment of a family member - Mike Maloney. After Mike Maloney passed, The Happy Half Marathon was born. One of our original goals was to benefit cancer research and make a difference to those fighting cancer in our area. That mission remains true and our proceeds benefit the Mercy Health Springfield Cancer Center.

What does the course look like?

We've worked closely with officials at Wittenberg University, the City of Springfield, and Springfield PD to put together a great, safe course that highlights some of what Springfield has to offer. The course is entirely paved with a mix of roads, bike trails, and some short sidewalk portions. You're going to love it! Click the images below to learn even more!

I'm just watching the race this year, what should I do?

Spectators are welcome to watch the race from any point along the course. There are plenty of great viewing areas to cheer on family, friends, and strangers who are participating in the race.

Are strollers allowed on the course?

If you prefer to run with a stroller, we are happy to welcome that! However, we do ask that you are considerate of our other runners, as the course is narrow. Please try to stay near the sides or back of the course as much as possible.

Is water available on the course?

Of course! We have a number of water stations located along the course and maned by our 200+ gracious volunteers. Each station will provide water and electrolytes to runners. Additionally, one water station along the course will offer energy gels.

Want to volunteer for the race or have a group/team that might be interested?

We're ALWAYS looking for new volunteers to help out with the race. Email contact@happyhalfmarathon.com for more information on volunteering!
