What is the Happy Half Marathon?
In 2011 a group of family members ran from Springfield to Yellow Springs in training for the Columbus Marathon. Their goal was to raise money for the cancer treatment of a family member - Mike Maloney. After Mike Maloney passed, The Happy Half | Trainer's Half Marathon was born. One of our original goals was to benefit cancer research and make a difference to those fighting cancer in our area. That mission remains true and our proceeds benefit the Springfield Regional Cancer Center.

As the course is public, it does not close. However, the race will be timed for 3 and a half hours.
When and where is packet pickup?
Packet pickup will take place on Friday, August 14, 2020 in the St. Teresa Catholic School gymnasium from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
When you arrive, just find our friendly volunteers, give them your name, and they will get you everything you need. After that, you will be on your way to rest up for race day!
I can't make it on to packet pickup. Can I have someone pick up my packet for me?
Definitely! We understand that folks might have other obligations and things that prevent them from stopping by on Friday. If you have a friend or family member that can pick up your packet for you, just contact us and leave us a message to know who will by picking up your packet for you.
Can I pick up my packet on Saturday before the race starts?
We encourage all runners to make it out to Friday's packet pickup. This helps us ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible on Saturday morning. With that said, we understand that some folks may not be able to make it the night before the race. We will offer packet pickup on Saturday morning prior to the race. We ask that you are there at least 30-45 minutes before the start time to help us get started on time!
Packet pickup and key drop off will begin at 6:00am on Saturday, August 15th.
Is transportation provided from the finish back to the start?
Of course! Being a point-to-point race, we feel it is essential for us to provide safe and efficient transportation for our runners following the race. The provided buses will pick up runners at the Yellow Springs Brewery and take them back to Springfield High School.
Shuttles we begin at 10:00am and end promptly at 12:00pm.
What is provided to runners?
Our finisher's medals are one of the things that keep runners coming back year after year. The medals are handcrafted and unique. Designed and handcrafted by local glass artist, Doug Frates, there is no other race that has a finisher's medal like ours. Additionally, runners receive a race shirt and many other goodies in their race bag.
Is there water available on the course?
Absolutely! We have a number of water stations located along the course and maned by our 200+ gracious volunteers. Each station will provide water and Gatorade to runners. Additionally, there is one stop (Beatty Station) where Gu will be offered.
Be sure to take note of your favorite water table this year and, after the race, vote in the first annual Happy Half Marathon Water Table Competition!
